Areas of Impact
The Alliance for Sustainable Colorado is the organization at the confluence of sustainability in our state, and The Alliance Center is our living example of sustainability in action. This is core to what we do: amplifying the impact of organizations changing our state for the better, while maintaining our leading-edge of the sustainability movement.
In 2017, our three key Areas of Impact target separate but interconnected goals, each one within our primary charge of making the sustainability movement more impactful, across Colorado.
The Hub Program supports a collaborative and active Alliance Center community, bringing together thought leaders, hosting a robust program of educational events and providing the ideal working space for Colorado’s sustainability organizations, making The Alliance Center the recognized heart of the state’s sustainability movement.
The Building Innovation Program will dramatically reduce resource use in the commercial building sector, which is responsible for up to 40 percent of U.S. energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The program is solidifying The Alliance Center as an exemplary high-performance green building, and features our Direct Current (DC) Microgrid Project – a first-of-its-kind conversion for an existing building to a system that reduces carbon emissions while also being resilient and self-contained. The building and the organization will flourish as leaders in energy innovation in the built environment.
The Sustainable Energy Program works with key stakeholders to shift the center of gravity in Colorado’s energy debate, which will lead to the adoption of substantial energy efficiency and renewable energy policies for the state. Ultimately, these efforts will achieve a 50 percent decrease in the state’s CO2 emissions, compared to 1990 emissions levels, by 2020.
Our Core Beliefs
We believe in sustainability as the foundation for a future where health, happiness, equity, and prosperity can belong to everyone, and where communities are empowered and enabled to balance their environmental, social and economic priorities, in harmony.
