blog the change you wish to see in the world
The world we live in is changing rapidly, and it is almost impossible to keep up. Thinking about this I stayed up last night watching interviews with some of the founders of the more prominent social networking platforms. I heard from founders of facebook, twitter and foursquare to name a few. It was fascinating to hear how social networking has transformed the lives of so many, connecting people for better or worse. I’ve often thought of these tools as primarily addicting people to constant connection to their friends, and making silence, and ‘alone-time’, seem very scary; however, after observing what type of change has been taking place in the world as a result of these networks I have realized social networking can do a lot more than just let me know what my girlfriend had for breakfast.
Here at the Alliance Center there is a constant need to stay on top of the latest happenings in an industry moving faster than ever: sustainability. Tenants in the building are keeping up on the latest policy developments, conservation movements, and green building trends. Using tools like this blog (and this website at-large) is key to staying informed. Not only can reading blogs and wall posts keep you informed on the latest “haps”, but it is also a tool for collaboration. And in a place where collaboration is so important for our success, as nonprofits working for a more sustainable future, it is all the more important that we take advantage of these tools. In my own work I have made many new connections to like-minded professionals, and found blogs in-particular to be the most useful place to find the latest developments in the green building industry. So, be sure not to miss out on what is going on all around you by not engaging in tools like this one!
